Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Prestige follows two stage musicians – Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) – who, after a tragic accident engage in a battle to create the ultimate illusion while sacrificing everything they have to outwit each other.

I knew I would like this film, but I didn’t expect to love it. It’s dark, magical, and its staging is captivating in every sense.
The engrossing plot leaves you guessing right until the last minute, only to make you realise that you were told everything from the very beginning, just like you are with most magic tricks. And just like these tricks, this film is completely impressive in how phenomenally intricate and mysterious it is.
Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale make brilliant leads and it is their performances that entrap you in this ingeniously crafted puzzle that’s full of twists and turns. Even many watches later, I still forget how it comes together at the end and am forever blown away by it.
With the excellent supporting roles from the likes of Michael Caine, Rebecca Hall, Scarlett Johansson, and even David Bowie, as well, The Prestige is a truly masterful film from the outstanding director that is Christopher Nolan.
