(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)
Paranormal Activity 3 has been given a new poster this month, not giving anything of the storyline away, but introducing us to the two main characters.
As two young girls sleep in their beds, a haunting figure shadows over them. One of the girls is Katie, who we know from the previous films, but as a sequel to the whole Paranormal Activity franchise, this is where it all began.
The directors of the second prequel in the franchise, the third film in the series but the first in its chronological order, are the directors behind last year’s mockumentary, Catfish, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
Whilst Catfish wasn’t a horror, it’s Facebook stalker storyline was, in a sense, creepy; empty stables in the middle of a night and the secret identity of an old, lonely, slightly crazy woman aren’t the most natural of situations. Catfish also shows that the directors work well with found-footage style recording, but can they scare us to the bone with their take on this poltergeist phenomenon?
The series original director, Oren Peli, is still aboard as producer and the screenplay is by Christopher B Landon who wrote Disturbia.
Paranormal Activity 3 is set to be released on October 21st.
