(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)
With the release of Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin this week (26th Oct), there’s news that the film’s sequel is already underway.
The Tintin films, based on a series of comic books created by Belgian artist Hergé, were always pitched and planned as a trilogy that would begin under Spielberg’s direction and continue under Peter Jackson.
Jackson commented to THR that, “[Sony and Paramount] were willing to do one movie with us and then give us the financial wherewithal to develop a script, do all the visual storyboards and get it really in launch position. So we can launch pretty quickly on a second movie. The script is already written.”
This kind of production allows Jackson, who apparently responded with a definitive “yes” to following up The Hobbit with Tintin 2, to work on projects simultaneously. Yet it still might be a few years until we see this Tintin sequel, especially when work on The Hobbit returns to full swing.
Let’s not worry about it too much now, anyway. I haven’t even seen the first one yet…
