Plans for ‘Tintin 2’ Already In Motion

(Written for BritScene)

Even though The Adventures of Tintin is still yet to be released in the US, the film’s sequel is already underway with British screenwriter Anthony Horowitz already at work on the script.

The Tintin films, based on a series of comic books created by Belgian artist Hergé, were always pitched and planned as a trilogy that would begin under Steven Spielberg’s direction and continue with Peter Jackson taking the directorial reins.

Jackson commented to The Hollywood Reporter that, “[Sony and Paramount] were willing to do one movie with us and then give us the financial wherewithal to develop a script, do all the visual storyboards and get it really in launch position. So we can launch pretty quickly on a second movie. The script is already written.”

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Paul) have also been talking about the sequel, commenting that they hope their detective duo Thompson and Thomson will have more of an active role in the sequel.

Frost told Digital Spy about his desire to do “a bit more swashbuckling”, while Pegg said: “It’d be good to get in on the action, although the Thompsons would be dreadful in a fight, tripping over each other.”

It’s great to see that they want to be part of the next adventure for Jamie Bell‘s (Retreat) Tintin character, which will reportedly be based on The Prisoners of the Sun and The Seven Crystal Balls, and will also introduce the character Calculus.

The Adventures of Tintin will be released in US cinemas on 21st December and you can take a look at the trailer below.
