New Trailer for Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘The Dictator’

(Written for BritScene)

A new trailer for Sacha Baron Cohen‘s next leading role as The Dictator has been released this week. Directed by Larry Charles (TV’s Curb Your Enthusiasm), the film follows a man “who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.”

We know him best for his alter-egos Ali G, Borat and Bruno, which the film looks set to follow, but Sacha Baron Cohen has more recently starred in less controversial roles, including 2007’s Johnny Depp starring horror/musical Sweeney Todd, and in Martin Scorsese’s 3D family adventure Hugo, which is currently still in cinemas.

The trailer for this latest film does look funny, maybe even a little more tasteful than his previous roles, but I do prefer his smaller roles to his crude personas so I still don’t know what to think. You can make up your own mind with the trailer below.

The Dictator also stars Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, J.B. Smoove, and John C Reilly, and is set to be released on 11th May, 2012.
