The UK’s latest TV adaptation of the classic novel, Treasure Island, originally written by Robert Louis Stevenson, is coming to Syfy this Spring, reported Variety earlier this month. Directed by Steve Barron and written by Stewart Harcourt, the series first aired in the UK on 1st January, 2012 on Sky1. This thrilling adventure series is a new and exciting, action-filled take on the definitive pirate adventure.
The two-part drama follows the story of Jim Hawkins who’s unexpectedly drawn into the world of piracy when he discovers a treasure map. Long John Silver is on his trail, however, and will stop at nothing to get hold of the gold for himself. Aboard Jim’s ship is also a mysterious cook named John Silver whose true motivation on the journey challenges Jimβs trust in the entire crew as he embarks on an adventure that will change his life forever.
The series stars British actors Eddie Izzard (The Riches), Daniel Mays (The Adventures of Tintin), Philip Glenister (Bel Ami), Toby Regbo (One Day), and Rupert Penry-Jones (TV’s Silk), as well as Donald Sutherland (Horrible Bosses) and Elijah Wood (The Hobbit).
Treasure Island is set to air on Syfy around April 2012. Here’s the first two trailers:
