Phase 4 Films has acquired US and Canadian rights to the family comedy Horrid Henry: The Movie it has been announced this week, the first ever British children’s film to be filmed in 3D.

Based on Francesca Simon’s popular children’s book series, the film, directed by Nick Moore, grossed $10.5m (£6.6m) at the UK box office when it was released there in July last year.

Phase 4 president and CEO Berry Meyerowitz commented: “With the tremendous success this film has had overseas and the ongoing popularity of Francesca Simon’s books, we are delighted to bring Horrid Henry: The Movie to a North American audience.”

The film centers on a lazy schoolboy who ends up saving the school he claims to hate, and stars British actors Theo Stevenson as the lead of Henry, Rebecca Front (TV’s Lewis) as his headmistress, Richard E. Grant (The Iron Lady) as the rival headmaster and Mathew Horne (TV’s Gavin and Stacey) as his father, as well as Noel Fielding (TV’s Mighty Boosh), Parminder Nagra (TV’s ER), Prunella Scale, Girls Aloud’s Kimberley Walsh, and TV’s Dick and Dom.

Phase 4 said that it is “tentatively” planning a day-and-date theatrical and VOD release for the film, which will be under the company’s Kaboom! Entertainment kids and family label.

No dates have been given for either of these releases yet, but we will let you know as soon as it has been announced. Until then, you can watch the film’s trailer below:
