First Trailer for ‘Pusher’ Remake, Starring British Actor Richard Coyle

(Written for BritScene)

Yahoo Movies has released the first trailer for Luis Prieto‘s English-language remake of Nicolas Winding Refn’s gangster movie, Pusher, this week.

Originally directed by Refn (Drive) and released in 1996, the film follows a London drug pusher named Frank, played by Richard Coyle (W.E. & TV’s Coupling), for a full week as his life turns into chaos after a deal goes wrong. The more desperate his behavior gets, the more isolated he becomes until there is nothing left standing between him and the nine millimeter bullet his debtors intend to put through his skull.

Also starring British actors Bronson Webb (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Agyness Deyn (Clash of the Titans), Mem Ferda (The Devil’s Double), Paul Kaye (Match Point), Daisy Lewis, and Bill Thomas, Refn will serve as executive producer whilst Matthew Read is to pen the script.

The new trailer, which can be seen below, reminds me of Refn’s 2011 film Drive in the sense that it looks very much like the British video game Grand Theft Auto. Full of gangsters, strippers, and guns, we are sure to be on another thrilling ride with this film.

The Weinstein Company’s VOD-oriented label Radius-TWC picked up the US and Caribbean rights to the film earlier this month, so hopefully we can be expecting to see this in theaters sometime soon. In the meantime, watch the new trailer here.
