With two pieces of casting news rolled into one, Disney has this week recruited British director Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead) to helm a remake of the 1972 television horror, The Night Stalker, and Johnny Depp is set to star in the main role.
The original TV show was written by I Am Legend novelist Richard Matheson, and follows a Las Vegas reporter who investigates into a string of murders that he suspects are committed by a vampire.
It seems that Depp and his producing partner Christi Dembrowski have had plans on getting the remake developed for some time, and I think most will agree that Wright is a great choice to bring the adaptation to the big screen.
With no script written as of yet, Depp is currently filming The Lone Ranger so it can be expected that The Night Stalker will start shooting early next year.
Until then we will next see him as a vampire himself in another TV adaptation, Dark Shadows, which is set to be released 11th May, whilst Wright is currently working on the final film in the his, Simon Pegg’s and Nick Frost’s Cornetto trilogy and has also recently been attached to Marvel’s Ant-Man.
