Jeremy Irons is in final talks to star in the young adult fantasy, Beautiful Creatures, it has been announced this week, the upcoming adaptation of the first novel in the New York Times best-selling series written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
Produced by Alcon Entertainment, the supernatural adaptation is being written and directed by Richard LaGravenese (P.S. I Love You), and follows high-school student Ethan Wate (Jack O’Connell – Eden Lake) who meets and becomes bewitched by 16-year-old Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert) whose family has moved to the small South Carolina town where he lives. But as they begin to uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town, the couple must confront a curse that has haunted Lena’s family for generations as she starts to comes to grips with her powers.
Irons (Die Hard With A Vengeance), taking the role of a mysterious and reclusive uncle, will also be joining British actress Emma Thompson (Brave) who will play the dual roles of Mrs. Lincoln, a small town religious zealot, and Sarafine, the dark witch who possesses her.
Also starring strong>Emmy Rossum (TV’s US Shameless) as Englert’s witch cousin and enemy, Oscar-nominee Viola Davis (The Help), and Thomas Mann (Project X), the film is set to begin production in New Orleans next month.
