Hunger Games Sequel Officially & Unsurprisingly Titled ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’

(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)

Did you hear what The Hunger Games sequel has been called? That’s right, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Who’d have guessed?

Summit Entertainment announced the official name confirmation for The Hunger Games sequel last week, which will be based on Suzanne Collins’ second novel in The Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire.

With all the Twilight films, also made by Summit, all employing ‘The Twilight Saga’ addition to the start of the film title, and the Harry Potter novels already starting with ‘Harry Potter and the…’, it was only obvious that The Hunger Games would do the same.

Now confirmed to be directed by I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence, Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt was recently brought in to do a rewrite on Slumdog Millionaire’s director Simon Beaufoy’s original adaptation of Collins’ novel.

With production set to begin in August, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland are all returning for the follow-up and it is very likely that Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, and Stanely Tucci will return as well, unless their smaller roles in this novel are diminished entirely that is. We will also see an addition of new cast members with a couple of major new characters that have yet to be cast.

Whilst are sure to know more shortly, we can safely say that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will open on November 22nd, 2013.
