(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)
The first images from the upcoming remake of Carrie have been released by Entertainment Weekly this week, giving us a look at the iconic image of Carrie soaked in blood on prom night and of her controlling religious mother.
An adaptation of Stephen King’s 1974 novel that was originally adapted by Brian De Palma in 1976 starring Sissy Spacek, the remake is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
With Chloe Grace Moretz taking the lead, the film follows high-schooler Carrie White who, after being pushed too far by her classmates and mother, unleashes telekinetic hell.
Moretz looks surprisingly well-fitting in the lead. Though not as freaky looking at Spacek’s portrayal, she’s sure to give a powerful performance, as this blood-drenched still suggests.
The new images also show Julianna Moore as her conservative mother Margaret, played brilliantly in the original by Piper Laurie, who also looks like she’ll do well to give the audience the shivers.
Set to be released on 15th March, 2013, the film also stars Judy Greer as gym teacher Miss Desjardin, Portia Doubleday as snooty Chris Hargenson, Gabriella Wilde as Chris’ best friend Sue Snell, and Ansel Elgort as high school heartthrob Tommy Ross.
That looks bloody good.

Hopefully they’re concentrating on making a faithful adaptation of the book, as opposed to remaking the first film which, although great, wasn’t particularly faithful to the source material.
