(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)
This week we have the look at Evangeline Lilly’s character, Tauriel, in the first part of Peter Jackson’s upcoming adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien‘s The Hobbit, thanks to the release of the film’s merchandise.
Prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) who is swept into a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
Evangeline Lilly, best known for her role in J.J. Abrams’ TV series Lost, commented earlier this year that her character doesn’t appear in Tolkien‘s novel, but described that Tauriel is a warrior and head of the Elven Guard.
“She’s the big shot in the army,” said Lilly. “So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly.”
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey also stars Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Andy Serkis as Gollum, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug, Ian Holm as older Bilbo,Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Richard Armitage, Stephen Fry, James Nesbitt, and Luke Evans, as well as many others, both new and those reprising their original roles, and will be released in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theatres on 14th December.
