As the year draws closer to its end, the new trailers for the beginning of 2013 have started rolling in. From giants to witches, to parasitic alien souls and illusionist con-men, the new year looks set to bring us some fantastic films.

Now You See Me
One of my most anticipated releases due to be released in the summer of next year is Louis Leterrier’s thriller Now You See Me. With a fantastic cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo, Mélanie Laurent, Dave Franco, and Michael Caine, the film follows an elite FBI squad pitted in a game of cat and mouse against “The Four Horsemen,” a super-team of the world’s greatest illusionists.If this is anything like The Prestige then it’s going to be brilliant! The new trailer is enough to get you excited anyway. Now You See Me will be released on 21st June, 2013.
The Host
We also have e an interesting new trailer for The Host, an adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s sci-fi romance. Directed by Andrew Niccol, the new trailer does a great job of setting up the film’s plot, which is about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war, set in a futuristic world that has been invaded by an unseen enemy that host themselves in humans. Niccol didn’t do a brilliant job with his last sci-fi project, In Time, but hopefully with a solid original source behind it the story may come to life much better this time around. The new trailer doesn’t look awful, anyway. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Jake Abel and Max Irons, The Host is set to be released on 29th March, 2013.
Oz: The Great And Powerful
The new trailer for Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantasy adventure, Oz: The Great And Powerful, is very impressive, too. Discovering the origins of L. Frank Baum‘s classic children’s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the film is a prequel to his work, looking at how the Wizard arrived in Oz and became the ruler. With James Franco in the lead role as the young wizard Oscar Diggs the film also stars Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis as the three witches, Glinda, Evanora and Theodora, respectively. The cast come together brilliantly in the new trailer, which also introduces us to the voice over character of Zach Braff as a flying monkey, giving even more the reason to look forward to the release of this one. Featuring the stunning settings and dazzling animations that the film is filled with, the new trailer also introduces us to some of the new, interesting characters from the books that we haven’t met before. Oz: The Great and Powerful is set to be released in UK cinemas in March 2013.
Jack The Giant Slayer
A couple of weeks ago we had the first trailer for zombie romance Warm Bodies, while this week we have a brand new trailer for another film set to star Skins actor Nicholas Hoult in the lead role, with director Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Slayer. Based on the classic fiary tale, Jack And the Beanstalk, the film tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young boy (Hoult) unknowingly opens a gate between the world of humans and the world of giants. The new trailer shows off some of the great action sequences that the film is sure to be filled to the brim with, as well as a great fantasy world of CGI and even a sense of humour, with promising performances from its supporting cast too, most notably Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci. Also starring Eleanor Tomlinson, Ian McShane, and Bill Nighy, Jack the Giant Slayer opens in 3D IMAX on 1st March, 2013.
I Give It A Year
From the director and producer of many of Sacha Baron Cohen’s alter-ego’s work, this week we have a new trailer for Dan Mazer’s feature directorial debut, with the British rom-com I Give It A Year. Starring Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids) and Rafe Spall (Anonymous) in the leads, the film focuses on a mismatched couple as they struggle to survive their first year of marriage. With Simon Baker, Anna Faris, and comedian Stephen Merchant in supporting roles, the new trailer is surprisingly entertaining and even provokes the odd bit of laughter, so that’s promising. Also starring Minnie Driver, Jason Flemyng, Olivia Colman, and Jane Asher, I Give It A Year is set to be released on 8th February, 2013.
Admission
With Oscar nominee Paul Weitz (About a Boy) returning behind the camera, we have another new trailer for comedy Admission, which is led by Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man). Adapted the original novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the film is about the surprising detours we encounter on the road to happiness. Straight-laced Princeton University admissions officer Portia Nathan (Fey) is caught off-guard when she makes a recruiting visit to an alternative high school overseen by her former college classmate, the free-wheeling John Pressman (Rudd), who informs Portia thathis gifted yet very unconventional student Jeremiah (Nat Wolff) might well be the son she secretly gave up for adoption many years ago. The story is both romantic and moving, but also comical due to its fantastic leads. Also starring Michael Sheen, Wallace Shawn, Gloria Reuben, Nat Wolff, Travaris Spears, and Lily Tomlin, Admission will be released in the US on 8th March, 2013, but no word yet on when we can look forward to it here in the UK.
The Heat
And finally, we have another funny new trailer for Paul Feig’s re-teaming with his Bridesmaids star, Melissa McCarthy who stars alongside Sandra Bullock. The film follows the uptight and straight-laced FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Bullock) who is forced to join forces with Shannon Mullins (McCarthy), a foul-mouthed agent with a very short fuse, to bring down a ruthless drug lord. Their unlikely friendship looks like entertaining viewing, and it will be interesting to see how the two work together. Also starring Michael Rapaport, Demián Bichir, Kaitlin Olson, Taran Killam, Andy Buckley, Nathan Corddry, and Tony Hale, The Heat will be released on 5th April, 2013.
