The Oscars 2013 – Nominations, Predictions & Winners

With the 85th Academy Awards (or The Oscars 2013) airing later this evening, here’s a list of the nominations, my predictions and hopes for the ceremony, and I will update the post later with the winners of this year’s awards.

Predictions: Now that I’ve caught up with these nominations and having seen 90% of them I’d actually be happy for any of them to take the award. My winner would probably be Les Misérables , but my prediction is for Argo.


Jessica Chastain – Zero Dark Thirty
Jennifer Lawrence – Silver Linings Playbook
Emmanuelle Riva – Amour
Quvenzhané Wallis – Beasts of the Southern Wild
Naomi Watts – The Impossible

Predictions: I’ve been going with Jennifer Lawrence in all of the other awards, but this time around I’d love for Quvenzhané Wallis to win it, as she’s the youngest ever nomination for this award and definitely worthy of it.

Bradley Cooper – Silver Linings Playbook
Daniel Day-Lewis – Lincoln
Hugh Jackman – Les Misérables
Joaquin Phoenix – The Master
Denzel Washington – Flight

Predictions: It’s going to be Daniel Day-Lewis, but my choice would be Hugh Jackman.

Philip Seymour Hoffman – The Master
Robert DeNiro – Silver Linings Playbook
Alan Arkin – Argo
Tommy Lee Jones – Lincoln
Christoph Waltz – Django Unchained

Predictions: Christoph Waltz!

Sally Field – Lincoln
Anne Hathaway – Les Miserables
Jacki Weaver – Silver Linings Playbook
Helen Hunt – The Sessions
Amy Adams – The Master

Predictions: Anne Hathaway, as always.

The Pirates! Band of Misfits
Wreck it Ralph

Predictions: Frankenweenie and ParaNorman are both great, but I’d like Wreck-It Ralph to win.


7. Cinematography
Django Unchained – Robert Richardson
Anna Karenina – Seamus McGarvey
Lincoln – Janusz Kaminski
Life of Pi – Claudio Miranda
Skyfall – Roger Deakins

Predictions: I think Anna Karenina deserves some kind of cinematography award for the risk that was taken, but Life Of Pi deserves it too.

8. Costume Design
Anna Karenina – Jacqueline Durran
Les Misérables – Paco Delgado
Lincoln – Joanna Johnston
Mirror Mirror – Eiko Ishioka
Snow White and the Huntsman – Colleen Atwood

Predictions: A mix between Anna Karenina and Les Misérables, both looked fantastic.

Predictions: Quentin Tarantino, as much as I’d like Wes Anderson to win.

Predictions: Ohhh I would have said Affleck for Argo but since that’s not an option, I’ll go with Life of Pi

  1. I saw ARGO last night and I really liked the movie but (you knew this would come up) Ben Affleck is as expressionless as Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty. Did they go to the same acting school? Or is there a new “in acting wave” in Hollywood that the rest of the world hasn’t been informed of yet?
    Its strange that we have 3 “feelgood” USA movies this year (Lincoln, Argo and Zero Dark Thirty) – it looks like desperation.
