Directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, This Is The End stars a cast ensemble who, playing themselves, are faced with the apocalypse. While attending a party at James Franco‘s house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, find themselves trapped after a series of strange events. As the world starts to unravel outside and supplies begin to run low, the six friends are forced to face their fate and the true meaning of redemption, as the threat of being sent straight to hell for their sins begin to tear their friendships apart.
Inspired by the directors’ unreleased short film Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse, This Is the End brings together some of the best comedy actors and writers of the past couple of years, as they mock themselves and each other.
This Is The End is an engaging comedy with some big laughs, showcasing a great amount of talent with a number of largely improvised scenes. With all of the actors playing themselves, as well, you have to wonder how much acting is involved. Sure, it would be a truly epic night to drink and get high with this crowd, but would I want to endure the end of the world with them? Hell no. Though I will happily sit back and watch them pan out their own demise.
With some great and equally hilarious smaller cameo roles from the likes of Michael Cera and Emma Watson, too, this really is one big party you want to be a part of it. However, you do have to remember what you’re going in to. If you like these actors and the humour of Danny McBride then you will undoubtedly love this, but if you don’t appreciate their crudeness, you should already know to stay well away. You can’t be expecting the comedy of the year because that’s just not their style – we know it, they know it, and that’s why it’s easy to laugh along with; these guys just want to throw masturbation joke after masturbation joke at you, and that’s just what they do.
Not heard of this before. Sounds intriguing.
