Bristol’s Showcase Cinema Launches New ‘XPlus’ Screen

Last night Bristol’s Showcase Cinema de Lux unveiled its brand new XPlus screen, one of the largest cinema screens in the country, as it hosted the premier of Jonathan Liebesman‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Located in the Cabot Circus shopping centre, Showcase’s new screen measures in at a whopping 56ft wide by 24ft high, and is accompanied by a fully immersive Dolby Atmos sound system. With next-generation projection giving crystal clear definition, the silver screen gives the best and brightest picture in both 2D and 3D.

Described as “an experience like no other”, it’s certainly worth the few extra pounds to experience a film at this quality. The XPlus experience enhances your cinematic experience like you wouldn’t believe, and with nearly 60 speakers in total, including a number of them in the ceiling, the epic sound quality allows you to hear every movement as if it were happening right in front of you.

With the hosts of the event showing off the qualities of the new screen with a few visual and audible examples before the screening, the audience started off the night by sitting in a darkened cinema room as the sound of a storm slowly began to work up. The audience was in awe straight away, with the sound quality proving that you could feel every vibration. All I could think about was that watching a horror film in this screen would be a truly terrifying experience.

Maybe it was because of the new XPlus experience, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wasn’t all that bad either, and we were given a pair of some really cool Ninja Turtle 3D glasses.
