New Red Band Trailer for Michael Bay’s Benghazi Film ’13 Hours’

(Written for Filmoria)

Paramount Pictures has released the red-band trailer for Michael Bay’s upcoming action thriller, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

Based on a true story, and in turn on the 2013 book 13 Hours by Mitchell Zuckoff, with screenplay by Chuck Hogan, the film tells the story of the six members of the security team that fought to defend the Americans stationed at the embassy in Benghazi when it came under attack.

Working on such a current issue and on a script that’s based on a true story is an unexpected move for Bay. His previous work, including the Transformer franchise, Pearl Harbor, and the two Bad Boys films, has been incredibly hit and miss with audiences, so it’s hard to imagine Bay working on such a strong politic issue without including any cheesiness, cheap humour, or unnecessary big explosions, but the new red-band trailer looks really promising.

The film also has a great cast lined up, with John Krasinski (The Office US) leading, and James Badge Dale (World War Z), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black), and David Denman (The Office US) in support.

On the evening of September 11, 2012, the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a group of Islamist militants attack on the American diplomatic compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi, Libya. They kill four Americans, including a US Ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens. A security team of six members fight to defend the remaining Americans.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is set to be released in the UK and US on 15th January, 2016.
