New Trailer & Images for ‘The Martian’

(Written for Filmoria)

Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain are back en route into space, so if you didn’t like Nolan’s Interstellar last year, Ridley Scott’s The Martian might just be the sci-fi for you.

Based on the novel by Andy Weir and scripted by Drew Goddard, a brand new trailer has been released today, along with two images by 20th Century Fox earlier this week.

The film stars Matt Damon as an astronaut who finds himself stranded on Mars after he is injured and presumed dead by his team. With limited resources and a finite amount of time before his oxygen runs out, he must use the power of science to keep himself alive on the red planet.

Not only does the cast look pretty perfect – also starring Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara, Donald Glover, Sean Bean, Mackenzie Davis, and Michael Pena – but the new trailer sees Damon really looking the part, in a thriller that looks tense but also like a real good adventure.

Set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, The Martian is set to be released in cinemas on 25th November.

And here’s the official synopsis:

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.
