100 Films To Look Forward To In 2016

A Bigger Splash (12th Feb)

This erotic thriller, directed by Luca Guadagnino, is loosely inspired by La Piscine. The film stars Tilda Swinton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ralph Fiennes and Dakota Johnson, and follows the vacation of a famous rock star and a filmmaker which is disrupted by the unexpected visit of an old friend and his daughter. The film received fantastic reviews at the festivals last year, so make sure you catch this one.

Bone Tomahawk (19th Feb)

Written and directed by S. Craig Zahler, this horror-western stars Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Richard Jenkins, Lili Simmons, David Arquette, Sid Haig and Sean Young. It follows four men set out in the Wild West to rescue a group of captives from cannibalistic cave dwellers. I hear it’s pretty gruesome.

Hail, Ceaser! (26th Feb)

From the talent that is the Coen Brothers, Hail, Ceaser! follows a Hollywood fixer in the 1950s who works to keep the studio’s stars in line. Starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, and Ralph Fiennes, I can’t wait for this one.

Midnight Special (15th April)

Written and directed by Jeff Nichols, Midnight Special follows a father and son go on the run after the dad learns his child possesses special powers. It stars Adam Driver, Michael Shannon, Kirsten Dunst, and Joel Edgerton.

The Nice Guys (20th May)

Directed by Shane Black, which is always a good place to start, Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe star in this film about a private eye who investigates the apparent suicide of a fading porn star in 1970s Los Angeles, and uncovers a conspiracy. The film also stars Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley, Keith David and Kim Basinger.

Passengers (23rd Dec)

This is a film I can’t wait to hear more about. Directed by Morten Tyldum, and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Laurence Fishburne, Chris Pratt, and Michael Sheen, the film is set around a spacecraft travelling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people, which has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger is awakened 60 years early. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger.
