The Divergent Series: Allegiant (11th March)

As with most book adaptations at the minute, the final book in Veronica Roth‘s The Divergent Series is being split into two films. This first part of the final book adaptation, Allegiant, will be followed by a fourth film instalment, titled Ascendant, next year. Directed by Robert Schwentke, Allegiant sees reprised roles from Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, ZoΓ« Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and Naomi Watts, and introduces a new character played by Jeff Daniels. This first part will follow Beatrice (Woodley) and Tobias (James) as they venture into the world outside of the fence, and are taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.

Star Trek Beyond (22nd July)

The third instalment in the Star Trek reboot, Star Trek Beyond, sees Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reprise their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock. Directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious), and the sequel to 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, the film follows the USS Enterprise crew who have been attacked by a powerful unstoppable wave of unknown aliens who destroy the Enterprise. Leaving them stranded on a new planet, they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy as they try to find a way to get off the planet. Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin also reprise their roles, while Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella join the cast.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (16th Dec)

With a new Star Wars series of films just kicking off, there’s also a spin-off in the works. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be the first film in the Star Wars Anthology series, a collection of stand-alone stories set in the Star Wars universe. This first instalment stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk. Set shortly prior to the events of Star Wars (1977), the story will centre on a group of Rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans for the Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star.
