Ip Man 3 (15th Jan)
This Hong Kong biographical martial arts film, directed by Wilson Yip, is the third in the Ip Man series based on the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster Yip Man. Donnie Yen reprises the title role, and Bruce Lee is portrayed by Danny Chan. Also starring Mike Tyson, the film follows Master Ip who is forced to take a stand when a band of brutal gangsters led by a crooked property developer make a play to take over the city.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (29th Jan)
Directed by Michael Bay and based on the 2013 book 13 Hours by Mitchell Zuckoff, this film is based on the true story of the six members of a security team who fought to defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, after a terrorist attack on 11th September 2012. The film stars James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Max Martini, Toby Stephens, Pablo Schreiber, David Denman, Dominic Fumusa, Demetrius Grosse and Freddie Stroma.
I Saw The Light (5th Feb)
Directed by Marc Abraham, this musical drama tells the story of the country-western singer Hank Williams (Tom Hiddleston), as it chronicles his rise to fame and its tragic effect on his health and personal life. Also starring Elizabeth Olsen as his first wife, Audrey Williams, the film is based on the book Hank Williams: The Biography by Colin Escott, George Merritt, and William MacEwen.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (4th March)
Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, and based on the memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan by Kim Barker, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot follows a journalist (Tina Fey) who recounts her wartime coverage in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The film also stars Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Christopher Abbott, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfred Molina, Nicholas Braun, and Sheila Vand.
A Quiet Passion (September)
Based on the life of the American poet Emily Dickinson (Cynthia Nixon), and directed and written by Terence Davies, the film follows the story of Dickinson’s life from her early days as a young schoolgirl to her later years as a reclusive, unrecognized artist. (Image courtesy of The Film Stage).
