Directed by Will Gluck and based on the stories by Beatrix Potter, Peter Rabbit follows the rebellious Peter Rabbit (voiced by James Corden) finds himself up against a new young farmer, Mr. Thomas McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson), who is determined to stop Peter and his sisters – Mopsy (Elizabeth Debicki), Flopsy (Margot Robbie), and Cotton-Tail (Daisy Ridley) – from raiding his vegetable patch. With the help of their rabbit loving neighbour, Bea (Rose Byrne), can they win the war against McGregor?

Beatrix Potter’s stories of Peter Rabbit and the gang were some of my favourites when I was little. I’m so glad that he has become popular again, as I now have a two-year-old who I can enjoy films such as this one with. However, I wasn’t particularly excited about this film. I thought that they were just using Peter Rabbit’s name to make some money and that it was going to be just like every other animation that James Corden voices these days.
But I loved this film. There’s a lot of slapstick comedy and it doesn’t completely feel true to Potter’s original characters, but it’s a whole lot of fun, nevertheless.
The animation is also flawless, and completely shows up the recent Watership Down adaptation that was aired on BBC One this Christmas. The animation blends in amazingly with the live-action filming and the colours are beautifully vibrant.
James Corden does a great job of voicing Peter Rabbit, too, which I wasn’t expecting so much. It isn’t obvious who is voicing the other bunnies until you read up on it, though, but Rose Byrne and Domhnall Gleeson make great company for the exuberant bunnies.
