Rating:
There are superhero films that struggle to work with only four or five characters. There are superhero films that struggle to focus on just one. Somehow, Avengers: Infinity War manages to work incredibly well with over 20 of them. And it does this on various different planets and with the introduction of new characters, all without feeling like we are constantly being thrown new information that we don’t have time to take in or find difficult to place. Not once did I question what was going on or who somebody was, which is very rare for a film focusing on so many characters. For that, Infinity War cannot be faulted.
Infinity War has everything that makes the many Marvel films the have come before it work so well and more. The visuals are amazing, there are many hilarious one-liners, it is well-edited and the story comes together well, and the fight scenes and action are brilliant and fun to watch. We all have our favourite Marvel character, so they will no doubt be included in this and be bettered by teaming up with someone we didn’t ever imagine them to be seen fighting alongside. I just can’t believe it worked as well as it did, and now we have new favourite bromances AND female team-ups that we can look forward to seeing kick more Thanos ass together.
And then there’s that ending. I watched this film in the cinema, and the whole audience fell silent in shock. We waited for something more to happen. We waited for somebody to go back in time and reverse everything that had just happened. But that ending didn’t come. And now we have to wait. It will obviously all work out somehow, for some of the characters at least, but the casualties in this film still had a huge impact. If for nothing else, it’s hard to believe that we’re not bored of any of these characters yet and that we’re still looking forward to seeing what’s to come. Marvel are definitely heading in a strong direction. Let’s just hope that the actors have a few more films in them yet.
