Film Review: Deadpool 2

The 11th instalment in the X-Men film series and the sequel to 2016’s hugely successful superhero film, Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch, follows the foul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), who brings together a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy with supernatural abilities (Julian Dennison) from the brutal, time-traveling cyborg, Cable (Josh Brolin).

Now the highest-grossing X-Men film of all time, Deadpool 2 draws on the success of the first film but with added anti-heroes, as Deadpool brings together a misfit team of random characters with bizarre powers. As if things weren’t mayhem enough.

I didn’t know if it would work a second time around with the lack of shock-factor, but the comedy and the action are just as good, there are many more comical references, the soundtrack is great, and there are still a few surprises in store to make this just as shocking and hilarious as the first.

I also love that the story isn’t what you expect it’s going to be from the trailers, so this was a great ploy from the marketing team as it adds even more surprise to a film you that you think you know what you’re getting out of.

Ryan Reynolds has done a great job with the character and director David Leitch takes over from Tim Miller seamlessly.
