Directed by Ron Howard, Solo: A Star Wars Story is the second Star Wars anthology film following 2016’s Rogue One. The film is set 10 years prior to the events of A New Hope and explores the early adventures of Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) aboard the Millennium Falcon, who joins a heist within the criminal underworld. There, Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), years before joining the Rebellion.

A really great cast and a believable portrayal of the early days of Han Solo and Lando Calrissian. Their back story is enjoyable enough, but without the conflicts that we are used to seeing in a Star Wars film, the adventure doesn’t feel as exciting or fast-paced as what we are used to.
But the younger cast is spot on. Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover both brilliant, as are the rest of the fantastic cast including Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Thandie Newton.
Aside from the cast, however, there’s very little that stands out in this stand-alone film, but it is a good effort from Howard.
