Weekly Sky Cinema Premieres (19th – 25th November)

Since I don’t get to the cinema to see new releases that often anymore, this is my new weekly feature reviewing the latest releases on Sky Cinema Premiere (and in turn, Now TV). I will write a short review and rating for each of the films that I have watched and then give you the details for the ones that I didn’t get a chance to see.

This week’s feature sees the release of Corbin Nash, The Christmas Cottage, 7 Days, Thumper, Father Figures, Maya The Bee: The Honey Game, and Sweet County.

19th November – Corbin Nash

Synopsis: Rogue detective Corbin Nash bites off more than he can chew when his obsession with the murder of his parents takes him to Los Angeles. With the help of the mysterious Prophet, Corbin discovers he is the last of a clan of demon-hunters. He also finds out mum and dad were offed by the monstrous duo of Queeny and Vince who drag him into a Hellish nightmare.

20th November – The Christmas Cottage

Synopsis: Workaholic San Francisco interior designer Lacey finds herself trapped in Christmas Cottage – a homely Oregon pile reputed to bring lovers together – with her ex-boyfriend Ean. To make matters worse, she has to decorate the cottage for her best friend Ava. Will the overly romantic setting make Lacey believe that fairy tales really do come true?

21st November – 7 Days (7 Giorni)

Synopsis: Ivan and Chiara meet on a beautiful Sicilian island to prepare for the wedding of Ivan’s brother and Chiara’s best friend. Despite the fact that Ivan is determined not to repeat the failure of his last relationship and Chiara does not want to jeopardise her marriage, the two fall in love. They resolve to live their relationship for only a few days and then break it off when the wedding guests arrive. However, they have not taken love into account. In Italian with English subs.

22nd November – Thumper

Synopsis: A group of partying teens in a low-income neighbourhood find their drug-charged life challenged with the arrival of the mysterious Kat (Eliza Taylor). She starts experimenting with dope and meets Troy, the neighbourhood bad boy who runs drugs for his threatening cousin Wyatt. However, is Kat who she claims to be?

23rd November – Father Figures

Synopsis: Two warring twin brothers – proctologist Peter and laid-back Kyle – embark on a search to find their real father after their mother Helen admits that she has been lying to them for years about their allegedly dead father. Determined to find out who their father is, their quest leads them to question four possible candidates.

24th November – Maya The Bee: The Honey Game

Synopsis: When headstrong bee Maya accidentally embarrasses the Empress of Buzztropolis, she is forced to take part in the Honey Games. But if she loses, she must forfeit all the honey in Poppy Meadow. Faced with a sticky situation, Maya recruits a team of underachieving misfits for the contest.

25th November – Sweet County

Synopsis: The arrival of an unhinged WW1 veteran in a rural community in Australia’s remote Northern Territory in 1929 ends in tragedy after his alcohol-fuelled racism spirals out of control. When an aged Aboriginal farmhand shoots a white man in self-defence, he is forced to go on the run as a posse gathers to hunt him down.
