Book Review: The Dodos Did It! by Alice McKinley

Set to be released on 29th April, The Dodos Did It! by Alice McKinley is a funny children’s story that follows Jack who doesn’t just like dodos, he LOVES them. So when his dearest wish for a pet dodo comes true, surely Jack will be the happiest he’s ever been, EVER. Unless, of course, Jack wishes for more and more dodos. But when his new pets begin to cause complete chaos and no one believes that the dodos did it (because dodos don’t exist), everyone blames Jack for everything.

Maybe it’s time for Jack to think about wishing for something completely different…

Rating:

The Dodos Did It! is an easy book to enjoy with its cheeky humour and beautiful illustration.

The dodos are very cute and there is so much detail on every page that it really allows your mind to be filled with imagination with everything going on. I also love that the illustration uses a family of colour, as this diversity isn’t something you see often enough in children’s books.

This was such a great book to read with my 4-year-old as we joked about his messy bedroom and who he would blame for the mess, but also about what pet he would wish for if he could have one. So it opens up some fun discussions which is what I always hope a book will do, meaning that we had a good laugh thinking about it.
