BLOG TOUR: Lost Angels (Nikki Hunt #3) by Stacy Green

“She has spent her whole life protecting the ones she loves, but to find this killer Nikki might have to risk everything…”

Published earlier this week, Lost Angels by Stacy Green is the third book in her Nikki Hunt series which sees Special Agent Nikki Hunt called to the Boundary Waters near Stillwater, Minnesota, where the body of a young woman has been found frozen beside a remote lake. This time, Nikki is devastated to see that the victim is her childhood friend Annmarie, and she recognizes the velvet ribbon tied in her hair as the hallmark of a serial killer who she has been hunting for years.

Desperate for justice, Nikki throws herself into the case. But she is shaken by what she finds at Annmarie’s home: a photo of Nikki’s mother that no one has ever seen. Has the murderer at large been in Nikki’s life since she was a child? Nikki soon realizes that the key to unlocking this case is in her own family, but digging up the past could put her own daughter in danger.

Today is my stop on the #booksontour for this book. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you’ve read the first two books in this series, you are going to love this! Lost Angels is the book we have been waiting for, a suspenseful read that delivers on every level, as it’s finally time to unmask Frost!

I really enjoyed The Girls In The Snow and One Perfect Grave, but they both left me wanting more. The character of Frost, a serial killer who has been on Nikki’s radar for over five years, has only been a background character so far. And this was a great ploy used by Green, using her first two books to develop characters that you want to read more about, but also teasing readers with a bigger story that’s still to come. So I’ve been craving the next instalment of this series in the hope of seeing him take centre stage. And boy, I was not disappointed.

What I’ve enjoyed most about this series is the incredibly likeable characters, and Lost Angels only draws you even closer to them. However, I do think this third instalment relies on your relationship with them. Although Green does tie up the premise of the previous books well, I would recommend that you read the first two books beforehand to build up your engagement. Then when you come back to this one, you’re sure to feel all the emotions that this series has been building up to.

If you don’t know the characters, you’re sure to still enjoy this book as a standalone, but you may find that the action is a little light as the focus is very much on the effect on Nikki, her team, and those closest to her, rather than anything too twisty or shocking. There are obviously many big surprises revealed, but it does help to already be invested in Nikki.

As somebody who has been waiting months for this third book, I can honestly say that this is definitely one of my favourite series around at the minute. I’m not sure where it’s going to head next, but I will definitely be back to find out!

Synopsis:

On her hands and knees, Nikki moved to the other side of the body. She couldn’t stop her fingers from trembling as she brushed the dark hair off the victim’s face. She couldn’t look away. “I know her…”

When Special Agent Nikki Hunt is called to the Boundary Waters near Stillwater, Minnesota, it’s not just the cold that shocks her to her core: the body of a young woman has been found frozen beside a remote lake. Nikki is devastated to see the victim is her childhood friend Annmarie, and she recognizes the velvet ribbon tied in her hair as the hallmark of a serial killer who she has been hunting for years.

Desperate for justice, Nikki throws herself into the case. But she is shaken by what she finds at Annmarie’s home: a dead-bolt on her front door and a map in the spare room, with the locations of murdered women circled in thick, red marker. Did Annmarie know she was next? Then Nikki finds out that the killer has left a clue in Annmarie’s bedroom: a photo of Nikki’s mother that no one has ever seen. Has the murderer at large been in Nikki’s life since she was a child.

Nikki soon realizes that the key to unlocking this case is in her own family, but digging up the past could put her own daughter in danger. She has spent her whole life protecting the ones she loves, but to find this killer Nikki might have to risk everything…

Fans of Karin Slaughter, Lisa Gardner and Robert Dugoni will be completely addicted to this heart-pounding thriller. Once you start reading, the twists and turns will have you racing towards the end.
