“It starts with a shocking accusation…”
The End Of Her by Shari Lapena follows recently married Stephanie and Patrick who have newborn twins. While Stephanie struggles with the disorienting effects of sleep deprivation, there’s one thing she knows for certain – she has everything she ever wanted. Then a woman from his past arrives and makes a shocking accusation about his first wife. He always claimed her death was an accident – but she says it was murder. He insists he’s innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. But is Patrick telling the truth? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?
I’ve read two of Lapena’s books before, A Stranger In The House and An Unwanted Guest, and thought both were easy but immensely exciting reads, so I was really excited to pick up another book by her.
The End Of Her is another brilliantly plotted thriller with great twists and intricate detail. However, I just didn’t find this one very exciting.
Thinking back on it, I really liked the way the story developed and how everything unfolded. But at the time of reading it, I just didn’t feel very enthusiastic about any of it. I feel like I’ve read something similar before, but I also feel like it felt very original at the same time.
So I don’t know? Overall, this one was very hit and miss for me. Still, I’m definitely looking forward to reading Lapena’s other books soon.
