“He’ll watch you. He’ll hunt you. He’ll leave you to die.”
Set to be released on 8th September and the third book in the DS Max Craigie series, The Night Watch by Neil Lancaster follows DS Max Craigie and his team investigate the murders of Scotland’s most notorious criminal, who had just walked free, and his lawyer, who was supposed to be on his honeymoon after the end of the trial.
As the case begins to show links to several other mysterious deaths, Max knows this can only mean one thing: they have a vigilante serial killer on their hands. But this time the killer isn’t on the run – he’s on the investigation team. And the rules are different when the murderer is this close to home. He knows their weaknesses, knows how to stay hidden, and he thinks he’s above the law…

If you like Line of Duty and Scottish crime thrillers, then The Night Watch is a must-read for you! An absorbing police procedural following a brazen team of detectives and a gripping investigation full of unpredictable twists, this thriller will easily have you hooked.
Centring around a formidable team with a great chemistry, Max and the other detectives like to take the mick and don’t sugarcoat their words. It’s obvious that Lancaster has had real-life experience as part of an investigation team, as the brash but humorous dialogue between the characters feels very genuine, and it is the bluntness in their approach that made me warm to them so easily.
This is the first book I have read in the series, and while it took some time to get used to all of the names, it was easy to feel a part of the team. With lots of great humour alongside a detailed investigation with lots to uncover, this was a fantastic read, and is sure to leave any thriller fan impressed.
After reading this, Neil Lancaster is definitely an author I’m going to be reading more of!
