My 2022 Reading Wrap-Up

Happy New Year’s Eve, everybody! As if it’s the last day of 2022!!!

But that means it’s time for a yearly wrap-up, and I’m so pleased with how my reading year has gone!

My TBR hasn’t gone down, but it hasn’t gone up by much (Started at 500, and ended at 519), but I feel like I’ve ticked off a lot of my goals, so I’m going into 2023 feeling very organised!

I’ll be posting my top reads of the year soon, but for now, here are my 2022 Wrapped stats:

June 2022 Wrap Up

I had no 5-star reads in June but I read 20 books in total and made a huge dent in my NetGalley library so that feels like a win to me!

May 2022 Wrap Up

I can’t believe it’s June already! I love doing these monthly wrap-ups but they do seem to make the month fly by quicker.

But anyway, I’ve had a great reading month! I read 19 books this month and while I feel like I could have fit in a few more, I did read some very chunky books this month and also ticked off some ARCs which I had waiting for review so I feel very productive!

I also had four five-star books, and three books made me cry!

Well, that was a fast month! I can’t believe how fast we sped through the Easter Holidays!

Happy new month day!

April is my birthday month (5th) and I always feel like it comes around so quickly! Although I’m just a boring 31 this year so no plans for it!

I’ve got a month of catching up with ARCs ahead of me for April (and probably May) and then I can focus more on my 22 in 2022 and get some mood reading in!

And I’m still holding out for my first 5-star read… what is wrong with me?! I am being so strict with my ratings at the minute 😂

Anyway, I can’t believe how much I managed to fit in this tiny month! But I did listen to quite a few audiobooks which always helps!

January 2022 Wrap Up

Wow, that month flew by! I feel like I only took down my Christmas tree yesterday!

But I love the first day of a new month, picking my favourite reads of the month and seeing what I have to look forward to in February!

I have rated so many books 4.5 stars and while a few of those stood out, they all just missed something for me to rate them 5 stars. I know I’m being stubborn, but hopefully February gives me a book that I can’t be picky over!

In 2020, I moved away from watching lots of films to reading lots of books and joining Bookstagram. So this year, my Goodreads challenge went from 50 books per year to managing to read over 200.

My 2020 Reading Wrap-Up

Over the past couple of years, I have documented every film that I have watched and reviewed them all using Letterboxd. As a way to motivate myself to read more, I thought I would do the same for what books I have been reading, using Goodreads as a way to set myself a reading challenge every year.

I initially set my target as 25 books this year, but a few things happened that meant I reached this goal quite early on. Firstly, I had a baby, so this meant that I was awake at silly hours with plenty of time to read. Then, there was lockdown. Because of lockdown, I decided to join Bookstagram and NetGalley and get more serious about reviewing books. So now, instead of reading two books at most a month, I’ve been reading up to ten.

I upped my goal to 60 around halfway through the year, and still managed to pass that by reaching 74 books. This year has really rekindled my love of books, and I can’t wait to start 2021 with this new passion.

Here’s how my 2020 challenge went:

You Should Be Reading: Rebecca

Written by Daphne du Maurier and published in 1938, Rebecca is a classic English novel that follows the narration of an unnamed protagonist who, whilst working as the companion to a rich American woman vacationing in Monte Carlo, meets a wealthy widowed Englishman named Maxim de Winter. When he suddenly proposes her hand in marriage, she agrees to accompany him to his mansion, the beautiful West Country estate Manderley, but soon finds that the memory of his first wife, Rebecca, still maintains a grip on her husband and the servants, especially on the housekeeper Mrs Danvers. Haunted by her memory, a mystery that lives on even after Rebecca’s death begins to unravel.

Set to be released next month, the film adaptation is directed by Ben Wheatley and will star Armie Hammer as Maxim de Winter, Lily James as Mrs de Winter, and Kristin Scott Thomas as Mrs Danvers.

After doubling my goal of 10 books last year (since I went on honeymoon and managed to read a book a day!), I thought I would keep my goal to 20 books this year. However, just missed out on this target, but I was ever so close to making it.

Written by A.J. Finn and published in 2018, The Woman In The Window follows Anna Fox who lives alone in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine, watching old movies, recalling happier times, and spying on her neighbours. When the Russells move into the house across the street, Anna thinks they look like the perfect family: a father, a mother, and their teenage son. But when Anna sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? Nothing is what it seems.

You Should Be Reading: The Knife of Never Letting Go

“The Noise is a man unfiltered, and without a filter, a man is just chaos walking.”

Written by Patrick Ness and originally published in 2008, The Knife of Never Letting Go is the first book in the Chaos Walking young adult trilogy. Set in the near future, the story follows 12-year-old Todd Hewitt, the only boy left in a town called Prentisstown. Todd has been brought up to believe that a pathogen has killed all women in a colony world and that the alien inhabitants unleashed a germ called The Noise, giving everybody the ability to hear everyone else’s thoughts. A month away from becoming a man, Todd comes upon a patch of silence and soon discovers the source: a girl. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two go on the run, along with Todd’s loyal dog, Manchee, and learn more about the true history of the New World a secret about Prentisstown’s past.

Set to be released in 2020 and directed by Doug Liman, the film adaptation and stars Tom Holland as Todd, Daisy Ridley as Viola, and Mads Mikkelsen as the Mayor of Prentisstown.

However, it turns out that having a baby takes up more time than I thought it would, so this is the first year that I haven’t completed my challenge.
