Film Review: The Revenant

This year’s biggest Oscar contender, The Revenant, is based in part on Michael Punke‘s The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, which is inspired by the experiences of the legendary explorer, frontiersman and fur trapper, Hugh Glass, set in the 1820s. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the film follows Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) on expedition with his son, Hawk (Forrest Goodluck), and his hunting team – including Captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson), John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), and Jim Bridger (Will Poulter) – when Hugh is brutally attacked by a bear. Left for dead, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption, in a quest to survive and seek revenge on the man to blame.

Film Review: Birdman

Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, Birdman follows a washed-up actor, Riggan (Michael Keaton), who once played an iconic superhero. Now, as he mounts a Broadway play, led by stars Lesley (Naomi Watts) and Mike (Edward Norton), in a bid to reclaim his past glory, he must overcome his ego and family troubles and get back on track with his life and career and fix the bond with his daughter Sam (Emma Stone).

Catching Fire: Bennet Miller and Francis Lawrence Join Battle For The Director’s Chair

With the recent news that Gary Ross will not be directing The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, the hunt for a director continues as Lionsgate eye-up a number of candidates to fill the job, as the list that already comprises of Alfonso Cuaron, David Cronenberg and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, now also includes the addition of Bennet Miller and Francis Lawrence.

Released late last month, The Hunger Games has now made over $530m worldwide since its release on 23rd March and, now in its fourth week, still remains at the box office.
