Film Review: Justice League

The fifth instalment in the DC Extended Universe, following on from 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League sees Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) recruit The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) after the selfless death of Superman (Henry Cavill) to restore faith in a now very down-beaten humanity. Directed by Zack Snyder, the team must face an even great enemy as they must save the world from the catastrophic threat of Steppenwolf (voiced by Ciarán Hinds) and his army of Parademons.

Film Review: Batman v Superman – Dawn of Justice

(This week I took a trip to my local Showcase cinema to watch the new release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Thanks again to Showcase Cinemas for asking me to host a game of #OscarsBingo. By playing, I won two free cinema tickets, which I used today.)

Directed by Zack Snyder, the follow-up to 2013’s Man of Steel and the second instalment in the DC Extended Universe, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sees Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) share the screen as the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs. Two years after Superman’s battle with Zod, which left the city of Metropolis in ruins, the collateral damage has left many feeling angry and helpless. Fearing that the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on the Man of Steel, convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade.

The summer blockbusters are coming to an end for 2015, and with a few big releases still left for the rest of the year, we’re already eager for 2016 to get a move on. One of the most anticipated films we can’t wait to see is DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, just to see how DC do in the battle of the superhero films.

Based on Gillian Flynn‘s 2012 New York Times Best Seller, with the adaptation directed by David Fincher, Gone Girl is premised around the seemingly happy married couple Nick (Ben Affleck) and Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike). Introduced to the readers as your average husband and wife, Nick and Amy are a couple that you quickly warm to. But when Amy mysteriously disappears, the truth of their marriage slowly unravels. Realising that everything wasn’t as perfect as it seemed, the spotlight of Amy’s disappearance soon turns on to Nick, as he becomes the focus of an intense media circus. But is Nick a man capable of killing his wife? Was their marriage really that bad? Or is the truth far from the whole story?

DVD Review: Argo

Directed by Ben Affleck, Argo is a dramatization of the 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran, which is in turn based on the book The Master of Disguise. Led by CIA exfiltration specialist Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck), author of the novel itself, a team is set up with the help of Tony’s supervisor Jack O’Donnell (Bryan Cranston), Hollywood make-up artist John Chambers (John Goodman), and film producer Lester Siegel (Alan Arkin), to create a cover story for the escapees, in which the fugitives must pose as Canadian filmmakers who are scouting exotic locations in Iran for a science-fiction film.
