Film Review: The Jungle Book (2016)

Based on Rudyard Kipling‘s classic collection of stories, and a re-imagining of the 1967 Disney animation, directed by Jon Favreau, The Jungle Book tells the story of Mowgli (Neel Sethi), an orphaned human living in the remote jungle of India. Guided by his guardians – Raksha the wolf (Lupita Nyong’o), Baloo the bear (Bill Murray), and Bagheera the black panther (Ben Kingsley) – Mowgli sets out on a journey of self-discovery, meeting monsters of the jungle – including Kaa (Scarlett Johansson) and King Louie (Christopher Walken) – while evading the threatening Shere Khan (Idris Elba).

The film industry has gone a little mad with their live-action remakes of classic Disney films at the minute. We’ve seen Cinderella, Maleficent, Alice In Wonderland, two Snow White adaptations, Jack The Giant Slayer, Hansel and Gretel, and even 101 Dalmatians (many years ago!), and there are many which are still yet to be released, including Beauty and The Beast, The Sword In The Stone, Pinocchio, and The Little Mermaid.

I think that’s them all so far, anyway…

Film Review: Exodus – Gods and Kings

Directed by Ridley Scott, Exodus: Gods and Kings tells the epic biblical adventure of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) and his daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Finding out that he is not the son of a King he was raised to believe he was, Moses is asked by God to rise up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

Film Review: Iron Man 3

The latest superhero film to be released by Marvel Studios and directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 is the seventh instalment in the Marvel Cinematic. Sequel to both the Iron Man films and the recent Avengers Assemble, the film picks up after the events of Loki’s invasion with a haunted Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) who, struggling to sleep, is having problems with his girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and is forced to sit back and watch his friend Colonel James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) take on the responsibilities of America’s iron-suited hero. When two old scientist associates, Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) and Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall), come back into his life, however, his personal world is destroyed as a threat from the terrorist The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) means that Tony must embark on a harrowing quest to find those responsible, leading him to answer the question that has secretly consumed him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Iron Man 3 Extras Get Flung Through The Air…

A whole sequence of photos have leaked from the set of Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3 this week, showing a number of people being pulled up in to the air, suspended from cables connected to a crane high up in the air.

The photos were taken as work on the Iron Man 3 production continued along the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington during the filming of a stunt on Monday 16th July.

First Look At The Ender’s Game’s Protagonist, Or Part Of Him

The first image has been released from Gavin Hood’s Ender’s Game on the film’s Tumblr page this week but, more of a tease, all we have been treated to is the image of a boys neck that has a some form of implant attached.

For those who have read Orson Scott Card’s best-selling novel of the same name that the film is adapted from, you may know what this means. For the rest of us, the science-fiction implication means that we can look forward to a different take on an imperilled society in a tech-heavy future.

Film Review: Hugo

Directed by Martin Scorsese, Hugo is a 3D family adventure based on Brian Selznick‘s award-winning best-seller, The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

Set in 1930s Paris, a young orphan boy, Hugo (Asa Butterfield), lives a secret life in the walls of a train station where he has to reset the clocks every day. His late father (Jude Law) has left him with the mystery of an automaton, a clockwork mannequin, still in need of repair. One day, whilst running away from the station inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen) so that he won’t be sent to an orphanage, Hugo bumps into a young girl, Isabelle (Chloë Grace Moretz), and gets on the wrong side of her godfather Georges Méliès (Ben Kingsley). But the key around Isabelle’s neck may be what Hugo was looking for in order to reveal the automaton’s secret, which in return will open up a new world for everybody involved, and maybe even a place that Hugo will be able to call home.

A new trailer for Martin Scorsese‘s first 3D film Hugo has been released by Paramount Pictures this week.

Based on Brian Selznick‘s award-winning best-seller, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Hugo is a young orphan boy, living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station in the 1930s. The story follows him on a magical adventure involving his late father and an automaton to unlock a secret that will transform his life and reveal a place he can call home.

Hugo stars Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley, and Jude Law, and is set to be released on 2nd December.
