Book Review: Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians #1) by Kevin Kwan

Originally published in 2013, Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan follows New Yorker Rachel Chu who agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young. She envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry, but Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

My Top 10 Films of 2018

This year, I have watched 513 films (45 released this year and 282 for the first time). My most watched director was Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock and my most watched actors were Samuel L. Jackson and Domhnall Gleeson.

Film Review: Crazy Rich Asians

Directed by Jon M. Chu and based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians is a contemporary romantic comedy that follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend , Nick (Henry Golding), to attend his best friend’s wedding and to meet his family. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time, Rachel is surprised to discover that Nick’s family are among the richest in Singapore and that he is one of its most sought-after bachelors. Having to face jealous socialites and Nick’s own disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh), it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.
