Film Review: Noah

Directed and co-written by Darren Aronofsky, Noah is a biblically inspired epic that follows the story of a man, Noah (Russell Crowe), and his family – his wife Naameh (Jennifer Connelly), sons Shem (Douglas Booth), Ham (Logan Lerman), and Japheth (Leo McHugh Carroll), Shem’s wife Ila (Emma Watson), and grandfather Methuselah (Anthony Hopkins) – who is chosen by his world’s creator to undertake a momentous mission before an apocalyptic flood cleanses the world. A story of courage, sacrifice and hope, as Noah is faced by an army led by the man who killed his father, Tubal-cain (Ray Winstone), how far will he go to accomplish a task set to him by God?

A Look Inside Darren Aronofsky’s Noah’s Ark

Cinematographer Matthew Libatique has released the first image from the set of Darren Aronofsky’s Biblical retelling Noah this week, giving a look at one of the film’s most significant set pieces.

As Aronofsky’s follow-up to the highly acclaimed Black Swan, we’ve already seen an image of the enormous ark under construction which was released by Aronofsky himself earlier this year. The new image, however, gives a peek at some of the reptiles inside the now finished ark, giving a hint as to what Aronofsky’s version of the story looks like.

Anthony Hopkins Climbs Aboard The Ark for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah

The cast for Darren Aronofsky‘s Biblical retelling of Noah just keeps getting better and better, with Sir Anthony Hopkins becoming the most recently announced to board the ark.

Hopkins, best known for his role as Hannibal, will play Noah’s grandfather, the 900-year-old Methusaleh, who dies seven days before the Great Flood.

Emma Watson In Talks To Join Aronofsky’s ‘Noah’

Emma Watson is in talks to join Darren Aronofsky’s cast of Noah, it has been recently announced, an upcoming Biblical retelling of the classic tale of Noah and his ark.

Already starring Russell Crowe as the Biblical ark builder, Watson is in discussions to play Ila, a young woman who develops a close relationship with Noah’s son, Shem, who will be played by Douglas Booth.

Film Review: Black Swan

Directed by Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan was one of the most highly anticipated films of 2010. Although the film was released quite late in the UK, in January 2011, the date of its release was still brought forward to deal with its anticipation, and it became Fox Searchlight Pictures highest per-theatre average gross ever.

The film follows Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman), a ballet dancer who lives with her controlling mother, Erica (Barbara Hershey), in New York City whose life is dedicated to ballet. When art director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) wants to replace the lead for his opening production of Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition with new arrival Lily (Mila Kunis); Leroy only sees Nina as the innocent White Swan, whilst Lily is the personification of its evil twin. Pushed to her limit, Nina becomes engulfed by the competition and begins to lose her mind as she finds herself becoming more like the Black Swan outside of rehearsal.
