Introduced to the readers as your average husband and wife, Nick and Amy are a couple that you quickly warm to. But when Amy mysteriously disappears, the truth of their marriage slowly unravels. Realising that everything wasn’t as perfect as it seemed, the spotlight of Amy’s disappearance soon turns on to Nick, as he becomes the focus of an intense media circus. But is Nick a man capable of killing his wife? Was their marriage really that bad? Or is the truth far from the whole story?

The Girl With The $200M Box Office Gross

Despite much questioning about how well David Fincher’s English-language remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was doing, the first film in an adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy passed two milestones earlier this month, reports have announced – the first to gross a total of $200 million worldwide and the second to gross of a total of $100 million in North America alone.

According to Sony this month, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire, is still moving forward, despite many believing that the franchise would not continue after the first film in a series of adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy didn’t do as well as expected.

The news follows Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal confirmation in November 201 that The Girl Who Played With Fire was definitely a go, and that it was planned to start filming late this year with a late-2013 release date targeted.

‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Sequels Confirmed

Despite under-performing Box Office results, Sony Pictures has announced that they will going forward with David Fincher‘s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo sequels, the final two films in an English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson‘s Millennium trilogy, reported Deadline this week.

Many believed that Sony Pictures and Studio chief Amy Pascal et al would not go forward with the second and third novel adaptations, after the first film’s Box Office release fell significantly behind Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows, only opening in 3rd place in the UK.

David Fincher‘s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first instalment in a Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson‘s thriller trilogy, originally released as a Swedish-language screen adaptation directed by Niels Arden Oplev in 2009.

This English-language remake follows investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) who is asked to help discover the truth about a woman who has been missing for forty years. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced that a member of his own dysfunctional family has murdered her. This is where Blomkvist meets Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), a young, gothic computer hacker, who Blomkvist hires to help him find “a killer of women”. As the mystery uncovers, we soon start to discover the disturbing truth about Lisbeth’s past and present as well.

With the release of David Fincher‘s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo only days away (26th December), iTunes have released an eight minute long trailer for the English remake of this Swedish thriller, and you can also download six tracks from the films score.

Adapted from Stieg Larsson‘s Millennium trilogy of novels, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first instalment, which was primarily released in Swedish and directed by Niels Arden Oplev in 2009.

David Fincher Talks Oscar Chances For ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’

Director of upcoming thriller adaptation, The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo, recently got together with Total Film to discuss the film’s Oscar chances, but does David Fincher even think it has a chance?

When asked how he fancied his chances with TGWTDT, he said, “It’s not really that kind of movie. Although I guess Brokeback Mountain had its share of sodomy…”

“Have you read the script?” he continued, “I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind saying ‘Phew! Real Oscar bait!’”

The official trailer for David Fincher‘s version of the first instalment to the film adaptations of the ‘Millennium’ series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has recently been released, confirming Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander.

The Millennium trilogy is a series of bestselling novels by Swedish author Stieg Larsson, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest – which were first published between 2005 and 2007. The novels follow investigative journalist Blomkvist, who is asked to help uncover the truth about a woman who has been missing for forty years. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own dysfunctional family.
