Film Review: Allegiant

Based on the final book in Veronica Roth‘s young adult dystopian Divergent trilogy, The Divergent Series: Allegiant is the third instalment in The Divergent Series of films and is the first in a two-part adaptation of the final book.

Directed by Robert Schwentke and set in the aftermath of Insurgent after the release of a video that revealed the truth about the faction system, announcing that the Divergent are needed outside the borders of the city. Tired of waiting for the self-appointed leaders of a now factionless city to make a decision, Allegiant sees Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) venture outside of the walls that enclose the only world they know, a futuristic Chicago in ruins, for the first time ever. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust, as a ruthless battle ignites. In order to survive, Tris is forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, and sacrifice.

Again directed by Robert Schwentke, and with Shailene Woodley and Theo James in the leads, the film adaptation is set to be released on 10th March.

Film Review: The Martian

Directed by Ridley Scott, with screenplay by Drew Goddard and adapted from the 2011 book of the same name by Andy Weir, The Martian follows a manned mission to Mars when Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is left behind by his crew after he is presumed dead. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meagre supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA, headed up by Teddy Sanders (Jeff Daniels), and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates, commanded by Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain), plot a daring rescue mission.

Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain are back en route into space, so if you didn’t like Nolan’s Interstellar last year, Ridley Scott’s The Martian might just be the sci-fi for you.

Based on the novel by Andy Weir and scripted by Drew Goddard, a brand new trailer has been released today, along with two images by 20th Century Fox earlier this week.

Divergent’s ‘Allegiant – Part 1’ Begins Filming

Production on the penultimate instalment of the Divergent series is officially underway, Lionsgate have announced this week.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 1, the first part of the final book in Veronica Roth‘s best-selling young adult dystopian trilogy of novels, is currently being filmed in Atlanta.

Brilliant New Poster for ‘Looper’ Featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis

It’s a shame that we haven’t seen much from the production of this film as of yet, but I’m glad to announce that we now have the first poster for Rian Johnson‘s upcoming science-fiction thriller, Looper. And it’s brilliant!

Taking place in the future, Looper follows a killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who works for the mob, who soon realises that one of his targets is an older version of himself (Bruce Willis).

Written and directed by Johnson, the film reunites the director with lead star with Gordon-Levitt after they first worked together on the mystery thriller Brick back in 2005.

Farrelly Brothers To Make ‘Dumb and Dumber 2’

Farrelly brothers Peter and Bobby are finally moving onto a project that they have long wanted to do: a second instalment for the 1994 hit comedy, Dumb and Dumber. With the intention to bring back Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, Sean Anders and John Morris (Sex Drive) have been hired to start writing the script to bring back this senseless yet lovable duo.

Carrey began giving hints for a sequel whilst promoting his latest film Mr. Popper’s Penguins, but this is the first confirmation we have had with the Farrelly brothers focusing on The Three Stooges, which is set to be released in the US on 4th April, 2012. Sean Anders and John Morris have also been busy co-directed the Adam Sandler comedy, I Hate You Dad, which will be released in the UK on 7th September, 2012.
