My Top 10 Films of 2018

This year, I have watched 513 films (45 released this year and 282 for the first time). My most watched director was Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock and my most watched actors were Samuel L. Jackson and Domhnall Gleeson.

This list changes constantly so you can view a constantly updated list on my Letterboxd page. Please note, I’ve not seen many new releases over the past year so this is likely to change quite often over the next few months as I play catch up, as well.

Weekly Sky Cinema Premieres (26th November – 2nd December)

Since I don’t get to the cinema to see new releases that often anymore, this is my new weekly feature reviewing the latest releases on Sky Cinema Premiere (and in turn, Now TV). I will write a short review and rating for each of the films that I have watched and then give you the details for the ones that I didn’t get a chance to see.

This week’s feature sees the release of Against The Wild, Her Magical Christmas, 120 BPM, A Very Sordid Wedding, Lady Bird, The Greatest Showman, and Wonder Wheel.

Film Review: Lady Bird

Written and directed by Greta Gerwig, Lady Bird follows artistically inclined seventeen-year-old Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan), a senior at a Catholic high school in Sacramento in 2002, who is desperate to move on from her hometown and fights against everything her deeply opinionated and strong-willed mum (Laurie Metcalf) encourages. With her mother working double shifts as a nurse and her father (Tracy Letts) having lost his job, such real-world problems aren’t really on Lady Bird’s radar, especially when there are boys like Danny (Lucas Hedges) and Kyle (Timothée Chalamet) to chase after.

Actor Ranked: Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan made her acting debut at the age of only 10 years old, and over the years we have watched her transform from a promising child star in films including Joe Wright’s Atonement and Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, to an elegant and super talented young woman in films such as Brooklyn and Lady Bird.
