Based on the 2009 award-winning novel of the same name, written by Irish author Colm Tóibín, Brooklyn is a historical period drama directed by John Crowley and screenplay written by Nick Hornby.

Set in 1950s Ireland, Brooklyn follows Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish girl who reluctantly moves to Brooklyn with the promise of a job. Although Eilis didn’t want to leave the comfort of her quaint hometown and the company of her mother and sister, the initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish when she is swept into a fresh romance with Italian plumber Antonio “Tony” Fiorello (Emory Cohen). But when tragedy forces Eilis back to Ireland, she is faced with temptation when the charming Jim Farrell (Domhnall Gleeson) enters her life. With her new vivacity disrupted by her past, Eilis must now choose between two countries and two loves.

Lionsgate has released a brand new trailer and poster for the critically acclaimed Brooklyn this week, and they couldn’t be more beautiful.

Another one of the most anticipated novel adaptations of 2015, this time from author Colm Tóibín, Brooklyn is a heart-breaking story set in the early 1950s, and stars star Saoirse Ronan (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Emory Cohen (The Place Beyond The Pines), Jim Broadbent (Iris), and Julie Walters (Billy Elliot).

Adapted in 2014 by director Jean-Marc Vallée and writer Nick Hornby, the story chronicles one woman’s 1100-mile solo hike across the Pacific Crest Trail. With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother (Laura Dern), which led to years of reckless, destructive behaviour, Cheryl (Reese Witherspoon) makes the rash decision after losing all hope. With absolutely no experience, and driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl sets off on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

Film Review: A Long Way Down

Based on Nick Hornby‘s dark comedy novel and directed by Pascal Chaumeil, A Long Way Down follows a disillusioned quartet of strangers – disgraced TV presenter Martin (Pierce Brosnan), stroppy teen Jess (Imogen Poots), wannabe rockstar J.J. (Aaron Paul) and isolated single mother Maureen (Toni Collette) – who unintentionally meet on New Year’s Eve, each with the intention to end their lives. Robert Redford and T Bone Burnett to Kick Off The Launch Of Sundance London

Robert Redford and T Bone Burnett will open the first-ever Sundance London music and film festival, organizers have confirmed this week.

The duo will launch the new film and arts festival that will debut in April 2012 in the UK.

“It is our mutual goal to bring to the UK the very best in current American independent cinema, to introduce the artists responsible for it, and in essence help build a picture of our country that is broadly reflective of the diversity of voices not always seen in our cultural exports,” says Redford.
