My Top 10 Films of 2015

2015 had a bit of everything, and it could have easily been split down the middle with both exceptional but also disappointing films. From instalments in some of the biggest franchises around including Star Wars, The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner, to Disney and Pixar classics, Studio Ghibli delights, and superhero blockbusters at their best.

This year I’ve watched 610 films (80 released this year and 262 for the first time). My most watched director is Alfred Hitchcock and my most watched actor is Samuel L. Jackson.

Film Review: Star Wars – Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Set 30 years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire in Return of the Jedi (1983), and the seventh installment in the main Star Wars film series, Star Wars – Episode VII: The Force Awakens, directed by J. J. Abrams, sees a new threat rise from the ashes. Led by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), The First Order are attempting to rule the galaxy, but the Resistance is still strong. Newcomers Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) join the fight with the Resistance, led by veterans of the Rebel Alliance, as they find out the truth about the Jedi force that they thought were only myths.

Sunday Screen: Teaser, Trailer, Spoiler

“Write about whatever annoys you”, I was told. So, since it’s my turn on Filmoria’s Sunday Screen rota this week, I want to moan about trailers.

Trailers are like the film industry’s Marmite: you either love them, or you hate them. And it’s no surprise really, since the line between a good trailer and a bad one is so thin that they’re usually more likely to ruin a film for you completely than they are to intrigue you a decent amount.
