Book Review: Midnight Sun (The Twilight Saga #5) by Stephenie Meyer

“She had changed me more than I’d known it was possible for me to change and still remain myself.”

The fifth book in The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer and published in 2020, Midnight Sun tells the story of how Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met, but this time, from Edward’s perspective.

Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?

Franchise Ranked: The Twilight Saga

Released between 2008 and 2012, The Twilight Saga, based on Stephenie Meyer‘s vampire-themed fantasy romance novels, is known for being both loved and hated by two very conflicting audiences. Whilst I feel like I always have to justify myself when I say that I like the Twilight films, there’s no denying that I do. Yet I find myself on very neutral grounds about the Saga on a whole, both loving and hating it for many different reasons, with the films not doing the books enough justice but also having some distinctive film-making qualities.

Films To Look Forward To In 2011

With 2010 being a great year for film with the likes of Toy Story 3, Inception and the first installment of the final Harry Potter film, 2011 looks set to top it with many anticipated sequels.

However, 2011 could also be a bad year for film with many unneeded additions to the barely successful films of previous years; films with the only purpose of being part of this new, and may I say overhyped, trend of 3D technology

So, let’s have a look at what to expect in terms of the highs and lows of film for the upcoming year.

Robert Pattinson’s Earlier & Upcoming Films

We all know the Robert Pattinson of the Twilight Saga which began in 2008. The Edward Cullen that teenage girls drool over (I being one of them). But I’m much more interested in his roles in other work. His lead role as Tyler Hawkins in Remember Me, released on DVD this week, a heartbreaking tale of love and family relationships. His appearance, and death, as Cedric Diggory in the even more popular Harry Potter (And The Goblet of Fire) franchise in 2005. So I decided to do a little research into other films he has been in, or is currently in production of, to set myself, and possibly others, a small playlist of films to watch over the summer.

Film Review: The Twilight Saga 3 – Eclipse

From Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga, the third film adaptation from her novel collection, Eclipse, is directed by David Slade, who has already dabbled in the vampire franchise with 30 Days of Night. Eclipse, living up to the Saga’s bad criticisms, churns morals to its younger audience and disappoints with changes from the original film and cast. But it’s not that bad, it’s just not one to charm its haters.

Eclipse follows the story of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who must finally choose between her glittering vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and werewolf phasing best friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) as the two most important people in her life must work together to fight and protect her as an army of vampires form to destroy the Cullen family.

The story of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) continues as the Cullen family flees Forks in order to protect Bella after an attack that nearly claimed her life. Subsequently delving into the history of the Quileutes, Bella discovers the secrets of Jacob’s tribe while looking forward to a reunion with Edward that may have deadly consequences.

Film Review: The Twilight Saga 1: Twilight

Based on Stephenie Meyer‘s novel of the same name and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, Twilight follows high-school student Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who moves from sunny Arizona to the perpetually overcast town of Forks in Washington. There, she meets Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a handsome but mysterious teen who has a secret. Edward is a vampire. His family don’t drink blood, but Bella’s scent inspires a nearly-impossible-to-harness bloodlust in Edward. Far from being frightened, the two enter into a dangerous romance. Things go relatively smoothly until a visiting vampire clan – consisting of James (Cam Gigandet), Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), and Laurent (Edi Gathegi) – catches Bella’s unique scent and threatens the young couple’s future together.
