DVD Review: Spring Breakers

Directed by Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers follows four college girls (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine) hungry for adventure, who, in order to fund their spring break vacation, land in jail after robbing a restaurant. Bailed out by rapper “Alien” (James Franco), a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do some dirty work, promising to provide the girls with all the thrills and excitement they could hope for. But how far are the girls willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget?

Not-So-Childish Fairytales

With two of the most recent films being advertised on TV at the minute, it seems that everyone is having a shot at taking a famed fairytale and putting an adult twist on it to make it their own.

Red Riding Hood, currently being shown in UK cinemas, is based on the classic Little Red Riding Hood. Set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter. Directed by Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke, Red Riding Hood follows a very similar storyline to Bella Swan’s vampire/werewolf love triangle. Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) is torn between two men; she is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). But which is the feared werewolf that threatens the village?
