25 Days of Christmas 2018 – Romance Advent

To follow on from 25 Days of Christmas advents for families and for toddlers, here’s another list for all you romantics out there. There are enough Hallmark movies on TV to keep you entertained all day and every day with channels such as True Christmas and Channel 5, but if you want something different, here’s the best of what’s to offer on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky Cinema and NowTV over the following month (December 2018).

1st December – A Christmas Prince

A Netflix Original released last year (with its sequel to A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding released this year), A Christmas Prince follows an aspiring reporter who is sent to the foreign nation of Aldovia to go undercover as a tutor to get the inside scoop on a playboy prince. Instead, she gets tangled in some royal intrigue and ends up finding love. But will she be able to keep up her lie?

2nd December – A Bramble House Christmas

Single mum and nurse Willa is offered the chance to spend Christmas at the Oregon home of one of her elderly patients with her son, Scout. When they turn up, they meet Finn, the generous benefactor’s son. But Finn has gone undercover, suspecting Willa of manipulating his dad for a share of the will, and doesn’t let on to who he is. When she discovers his true identity, will it keep her from ever trusting him again?

3rd December – Home For Christmas

Beth Prince has always loved fairytales and now she feels like she’s finally on the verge of her own happily ever after; a dream job in a charming independent cinema by the seaside and a gorgeous boyfriend. There’s just one problem – no man has ever told her they love her. Desperate to hear those crucial three little words for the first time Beth takes matters into her own hands – and wishes she hasn’t.

4th December – The Princess Switch

Stacy, an obsessive planner with a penchant for schedules, takes a spontaneous trip to the charming land of Belgravia at the encouragement of her sous chef and best friend, Kevin. While preparing for the Royal Christmas Baking Contest, Stacy finds herself faced with an identical stranger (both played by Vanessa Hudgens) and a strange request. Free-spirited but royally obligated Duchess Margaret Delacourt wants one last chance to experience life as a “normal person” before she dutifully marries the Crown Prince of Belgravia. Stacy can give her that wish.

5th December – Christmas Wedding Planner

Wedding planner Kelsey Wilson is about to have her big break, planning her beloved cousin’s lavish and exclusive wedding. Everything is going smoothly until Connor McClane, a devilishly handsome private investigator shows up and turns Kelsey’s world upside-down. Hired by a secret source, Connor quickly disrupts the upcoming nuptials but wins Kelsey’s heart in the process.

6th December – 12 Days of Giving

Starring Ashley Jones and David Blue, 12 Days of Giving follows good samaritan Baxter after winning a nice sum of money, who decides to play Secret Santa to the residents of a small town. One of his benefactors is a young boy with a deceased father. After spending time with the boy’s family, the man starts falling in love with the boy’s mother, as his generosity is soon rewarded.

7th December – Her Magical Christmas

Lovelorn Marie (played by 90210‘s Jessica Lowndes) is a huge Christmas fan, but she has lost faith in the holiday after a bad break-up. However, her spirit gets a boost when she meets her handsome neighbour, Nate. But to make things worse, her boss assigns her to edit the book of the man who caused her heartache. Feeling lost both at work and in love, Marie looks for a Christmas miracle.

8th December – Once Upon A Holiday

When an actual, honest-to-goodness royal princess runs off from her official obligations and duties for a couple of days to see how the other half lives, she winds up falling for a good Samaritan who is unaware of her real identity. And it happens right around Christmas. Will the guy still feel the same way once he learns the truth? And if this works out, won’t that make him a prince? We’re guessing yes.

9th December – Sharing Christmas

Christmas-themed boutique owner Anna is struggling to stay afloat as her store in a desirable neighbourhood of New York is too old-fashioned. Ambitious property developer Michael sees the old shop as an opportunity to flip over for a profit. However, after he spends a little time in the store and realises what it means to its loyal customers, he’s not so sure that he’s doing the right thing. A festive You’ve Got Mail, if you will.

10th December – The Holiday Calendar

Another Netflix Original released this year, The Holiday Calendar follows a struggling but talented photographer who inherits an antique holiday advent calendar, the contents of which seem to predict the future. Will this magical calendar lead her to a budding romance with Josh, Abby’s best friend who moves back home after spending some time as a travel photographer.

11th December – Angel of Christmas

Journalist Susan gets a chance at her first real article, writing about the family angel which was handcrafted by her great-grandfather. It is said to have a history of bringing people together. Working hard to get the article done on time, she is torn between the handsome and successful Derek and the free-spirited artist, Brady.

12th December – We Wish You A Marry Christmas

Also known as Marrying Father Christmas and released on Sky Cinemas on 11th December, blissfully happy couple Ian and Miranda plan to get married on Christmas Day, but they soon discover that there are complications. Ian can’t find the right words for his vows, the guest list keeps growing, and Merideth’s Uncle Charlie reveals a secret from their past. Will things go right on their big day?

13th December – The Christmas Contract

Released on Sky Cinema on 13th December, web designer Jolie (One Tree Hill‘s Hilarie Burton) heads home to Louisiana for the Christmas holidays after breaking up with her boyfriend, Foster. However, she discovers he’ll also be in town with his new squeeze. To avoid any hassle, Jolie’s lawyer girlfriend arranges for her brother to act as a “buffer” for Jolie, as long as she designs a new website for him.

14th December – A Christmas Cruise

Starring Vivica A. Fox, aspiring novelist Pam Stevenson hasn’t been plain sailing when her best friend Becky invites her along on a Yuletide-themed cruise to Christmas Island. On board, Pam receives an unexpected gift in the form of romance and self-discovery as she finds the love of her life onboard. But what will happen with them when the ship returns to port for Christmas Day?

15th December – Just In Time For Christmas

Young psychology professor Lindsay has a tough decision to make. She must choose between moving across the country for her dream job teaching at an Ivy League college or staying in her hometown to marry Jason, the man of her dreams. However, she gets an ethereal steer when – one foggy night – a magical messenger in the form of a coachman (played by William Shatner) transports her three years into the future and shows her what her life will become.

16th December – A Christmas Princess

Katie McGrath shows her sweeter side in this festive, modern-day fairytale. She plays Jules, an antique-loving aunt who accompanies her nephew and niece to spend Christmas with her aristocratic grandfather at his olde English castle. While the kids introduce their stuffy relatives to the magic of Christmas, Jules has a little adventure herself with a very real and charming prince.

17th December – Winter Wedding

Miranda is flying back to Vermont from her home in Seattle to join her family for Christmas. There, she sees Ian, a local handyman who she fell for on her last trip to the snowy state. But while changing planes in Boston, Miranda runs into old boyfriend, Josh, who follows her to Vermont, where Miranda learns of an old family secret. Can Miranda keep her family together and her love for Ian intact? Or will she forever lose her chance at a beautiful winter wedding?

18th December – The Family Stone

With a star-studded cast including Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton, Luke Wilson, and Claire Danes, The Family Stone sees an uptight businesswoman finds herself all at sea with the eccentric family of her prospective husband at their annual Christmas get-together, as she finds herself a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life.

19th December – Christmas With The Coopers

The intertwined stories of four generations of Coopers unfold right before the annual family reunion on Christmas Eve, when a series of unexpected visitors and unlikely events turn the night upside down, leading them all toward a surprising rediscovery of family bonds. The ensemble cast includes Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, and Marisa Tomei.

20th December – Coming Home For Christmas

Released on Sky Cinema on 20th December, newly redundant (and single) Lizzie Richfield lands a job as a house manager preparing the Ashford Estate for the annual Christmas Eve gala. Impressed with her sympathetic treatment of his dysfunctional family, the mansion’s owner, Robert, finds himself falling for her. And so does his brother, Kip… On Christmas Eve, Lizzie must make her choice.

21st December – Four Christmases

Starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, Four Christmases follows a couple who, having both come from dysfunctional families with divorced parents and crazy siblings with out-of-control kids, disdain the idea of getting married or having kids. But it’s Christmas, and they must now visit all four of their divorced parents. The film also stars Sissy Spacek, Mary Steenburgen, Robert Duvall, and Jon Voight.

22nd December – The Christmas Cottage

Workaholic interior designer Lacey lives in San Francisco and intends to have a relaxed Christmas alone, when she finds herself trapped in Christmas Cottage – a homely Oregon pile reputed to bring lovers together – with her ex-boyfriend, Ean. To make matters worse, she has to decorate the cottage for her best friend Ava’s wedding. Will the overly romantic setting make Lacey believe that fairy tales really do come true?

23rd December – Serendipity

Starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, Serendipity isn’t technically a Christmas film, but it is a lovely romance set at Christmas time, so I’m including it as it’s one of my favourites! The film follows a couple who are searching for each other, years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated, convinced that one day fate would bring them together and that they would end up together.

24th December – Love Actually

A Richard Curtis classic following the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London. The star-filled cast includes Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Martine McCutcheon, Bill Nighy, Rowan Atkinson, and Andrew Lincoln.

25th December – The Holiday

Saving the best for last, The Holiday stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz as two women troubled with guy-problems, who swap homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love. Also starring Jude Law and Jack Black, The Holiday is the perfect way to end a busy day, by cuddling close with your loved ones (maybe even under your own make-shift den!)
